Hello Peter,
I have seen this error a few times and in most cases the problem was caused by a rogue SMS message that is stuck in the memory of the modem or SIM card. If that is the case with your modem then the solution is to remove the messages manually with the AT+CMGD=# command, where # is 0 to the maximum number of memory positions on the modem and/or SIM card. You can use the command AT+CMGL=4 after each remove command to check if the problem still exists.
If this does not solve the problem you can send me the configuration file (menu options 'File-Export-Configuration') and the communication log of the modem and I will have a look so see if I can find anything else wrong.
Regards, Henk

diafaan event log
Timeout error, no or unexpected response after GSM Modem command "AT+CMGL=4"
if i send AT command via TERMINAL software, i can see received sms. so the simcard and modem should be ok.
same error when i use diafaan to send AT+CMGL=4 via modem.command
sending sms is ok when i set to "send only"
pls advise.
