Cinterion TC65T GSM modem

The Cinterion TC65T GSM modem is the same model as the Siemens TC65T GSM modem. Cinterion acquired Siemens Wireless Modules from Siemens in 2008.

The TC65T is a GSM modem with an RS232 serial port, external antenna and external power supply. The modem is designed for non-supervised use in industrial environments and is capable of running on-board Java programs.

Installation

After plugging in the power supply, antenna and RS232 cable and inserting the SIM card the modem is detected immediately by Diafaan SMS Server. As expected from such a robust modem, everything works right out of the box.

Optional settings

To increase the reliability of the modem, you can set the "RebootBeforeInitialization" option to "True" in the advanced properties of the GSM modem Gateway after the initial setup. This option instructs Diafaan SMS Server to send a full modem reboot command to the modem whenever a problem occurs and prevents lock ups of the modem.

Daily operation

During the test period I found no problems, the modem supports the full GSM SMS standard including delivery reports and full reboot with a modem command. This means that Diafaan SMS Server can optionally reboot the modem once a day to ensure that the Cinterion TC65T operates for months without supervision.

SMS send speed

Network Vodafone
Signal quality High
Time to send 500 messages of 160 characters, delivery confirmation enabled. All messages sent to the same number (concurrent send and receive) 56 minutes 07 seconds

Conclusion

The Cinterion TC65T is a very reliable GSM modem that is suitable for continuous use in critical SMS operations. The external power supply and antenna makes it ideal for installation in a server room or other technical environments.
