The problem with the latest version of .NET is not something that suddenly appears, it is only an issue when you have .NET 2.0 installed without the updates and service packs. A possible cause for this problem is if the SMTP port number 25 is already in use by another process, this blocks the SMTP server in Diafaan SMS Server.

A quick update for other users that experience this problem.

It turns out that the SMTP server only works properly with the latest version of Microsoft dotNet 2. It is recommended to install Microsoft dotNet 3.5, this version also contains the latest patches for dotNet 2.

Can you email me the configuration of Diafaan SMS Server (Select File-Export-Configuration) and the Windows version you use?

The SMTP server in Diafaan SMS Server does not generate an error in the event log when it cannot start, but normally this can only happen when another program uses port 25. I can send you an updated version of the email library that does generate an error in the event log. Maybe this will shed some light on the reason of the error.
