The reason for the 10+ seconds difference between the time the message was sent by the SMPP client and the send time in the send log of Diafaan SMS Server is most likely caused by the 'SendDelayTime' of '10' in the GSM Modem Gateway. When this setting is used, the GSM Modem Gateway waits 10 seconds after the message is sent before reporting it back to the log. Together with a 2-3 seconds process time in Diafaan SMS Server and a 2-5 second send time in the GSM modem the time difference between the SMPP client and the send log will probably be between 14 and 18 seconds. The 'SendDelayTime' value from the time in the send log must be distracted from the time in the log to get the correct send time.

We will change the GSM Modem Gateway in the next version of Diafaan SMS Server so that it sends the send result to the log with the correct time stamp at the moment that the modem indicates that the message is sent.

Regards, Henk

Thanks for the analysis. Willing to participate in testing if need be. We expect from you information about our problem.

I can have a look but if it is a production system I will not do the testing that is probably required to find the source of the problem. I'll only look at the current configuration and at the logs that are already available on the system. If that is alright then you can send the RDP login information to dms@diafaan.com.

Hello Artem,

A delay in the sending of messages in Diafaan SMS Server could be caused by dozens of reasons. The internal message queue might be getting too large, a slow HTTP callback server could delay the acceptation of messages or the GSM modems might generate send errors causing the modem to reboot.

To find the cause of the delay you'll have to track (one of) the delayed messages to see what happens to them when they are received by the SMPP Connector, stored in the send queue and delivered by the GSM Modem Gateway. Diafaan SMS Server has a number of log capabilities that can help you find the cause of the delay. You can enable the communication log of the SMPP Connector and the GSM Modem Gateway to log the messages as they are processed by the SMPP server and the GSM modem. You should also have a look at the event log of Diafaan SMS Server to see which errors are logged that could explain the send delays.

Finding the exact cause of the delays is perhaps not easy in a system with 192 GSM Modem Gateways. And it is also possible that the number of GSM modems that you use, in combination with the hardware capabilities of the server, is itself causing the slow send speed.

Regards, Henk

Hello.
We use Diafaan SMS Server 4.0. Scheme of work: SMPP -> GSM (192 pieces).
After getting a message to the queue SMPP observed a very long delay (10-30 sec.) to send messages via GSM.
In the SMPP queue is constantly 10-15 messages.
What could be the problem ?
Thank you.
