Hi Dwi,

Diafaan SMS Server logs everything that might potentially be a problem (and more) in the event log. It is not strange when there is an error every now and then, but if the error pops up regularly then it might be an indication of an underlying problem.

The closing and reopening of the serial port means that the modem answered with an error after sending a command to the modem. There should be an underlying reason in the event log. For instance that the modem generated an ERROR XXX after the send SMS command.
GSM Modems (certainly the USB variety) are not 100% reliable, if you are dependent on the system it is a good idea to use two modems with SIM cards from different networks.

The errors with the POP client all seem to indicate that the internet connection is unreliable. A 1 minute interval is quite short but normally this should not be a problem. It might be that RelayFax also encounters this problems but does not report it until the problem is repeated a couple of times.

Regards, Henk

Hello,

I am glad to have found Diafaan SMS Server after a long time searching on the internet and it really suits with our company' business requirement which is heavily using email and SMS in regularly contacting our business contacts.

I am still on testing/ trial period with it to make sure it runs well without interruption and noted from the event log that serial port is often close and re-open at certain interval time.

Closing the serial port results the GSM Modem Gateway is being forced to stop and it would possibly interrupt the process.

Also, the most common problems noted are due to the following reasons:

a). POP3 Client error: POP3 client is not connected.

b). POP3 Client error: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:110 (xxx represents the public IP address)

c). POP3 Client error: No such host is known

d). POP3 Client error: Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

The reports tells about connection problem to the mail server (POP3) but it is not the case with our fax server (RelayFax) to connect to the same mail server (POP3). I mean, Relayfax is checking email from our mail server every 3 minutes while on this Diafaan SMS Server is set at 1 minute interval. Could it be related to this short time interval?

Can anyone share their experience in solving this problems?

Thanking you.

Cheers/ Dwi
