Probably not. If the message is an MMS message, the binary message you get on the server is just a notification message with the location of the picture, not the picture itself.

Even a very small black and white picture SMS already takes 3 SMS messages to send. A single SMS cannot contain the information necessary for a reasonably sized picture.

Thanks Henk. To clarify, when I sent an image from my phone (iPhone) to the server it stored the record in binary format. Can the stored value be translated back to the image that was sent?

I understand what your saying about my device not supporting the receiving picture SMS but want to know if images from other devices that are sent to the server can be understood.

I appreciate your help.

That explains why you don't receive the message, the iPhone does not support picture messages.

Picture messaging was developed by Ericsson and Nokia to send logo's and small pictures to mobile phones in the days that phones still had small black and white screens. It is purely based on SMS and not many phones still support it.

MMS needs an internet connection to send the messages, SMS is only used to signal the availability of a new messages. Diafaan SMS Server only supports SMS messages, MMS is not supported.

Henk,

Is there a distinction between picture SMS and MMS?. I noticed when I sent a picture to the server it appears to have converted it to binary although I did not attempt to translate it as an image when reading it from the application.

For reference, I tried sending the image to an iPhone device.

Thanks.

Hi Thomas,

Are you sure that the phone is able to receive picture SMS messages? The examples in the manual are intended for Nokia phones. Some other phones may also be capable of interpreting them but a lot of modern phones do not support picture messages.

Hello,

I am currently using a GSM Modem and a SQL connector (MySQL). I have no issues sending or receiving text messages. I am trying to send pictures by inserting the binary into the MessageOut table. As part of the insert I put sms.binary into the MessageType field. The MessageLog gives me a status code of 200 (success code) but the message never arrived to the number I am sending it to.

Any help resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.
