Hello David,
By default, Diafaan SMS Server stores partial messages in a temporary database in the receiving gateway until all the messages parts of the message is received or until the message part was received more than an hour ago and the message is not yet complete.
There are two things that can cause the timeout. The most obvious reason is that not all of the message parts are received within the one hour time frame. Normally, this should not happen but it is possible that one of the SMSCs is unreliable and that some of the message parts are not forwarded in time.
it also could happen when you use multiple SMPP Gateways to log in on the same SMPP server with the same account details. In that scenario the SMPP server might send different message parts of the same message to different SMPP Gateways and the SMPP Gateway in Diafaan SMS Server won't be able to combine the message. If you have set up Diafaan SMS Server in this way, you can set the option 'Combine received message parts from different gateways' in the advanced general options of Diafaan SMS Server and set the 'MessageInHandling' property of each relevant SMPP Gateway to 'SingleMessageParts'. With these settings, Diafaan SMS Server tries to combine the message parts of all the gateways centrally instead of each gateway seperately.

I get a lot of these system emails throughout the day. You mentioned before that this could indicate something not right with my setup - what in the set up should I be looking for?
I'll contact the other side as well, but I'd like to have at least an idea of what we're looking for first so i don't just get fobbed off.
