Old fashioned 'dumb' phones often had the functionality to send and receive SMS messages with external software via the serial port connection. With the first smartphones the ability to send messages was sometimes still available but the internal messaging app of the phone usually reads and removes the received messages from the SIM card so that it is not available for the external application anymore. Most modern Android phones do not have the ability to send and receive SMS messages over a serial port connection at all.

You can find a list of GSM modems that we have tested with Diafaan SMS Server on our website but we don't have a list of old dumb phones that can be used with Diafaan SMS Server available.

On Android phones you can use our GSM Modem Emulator app to emulate a GSM modem over a WiFi connection, this works reasonably well but it has some limitations compared to GSM modems.

Regards, Henk

First of all thanks for reply. I have already tried "Compatibility mode" in Advance setting but it also not work.
Can you please suggest me list of GSM phone(s) which are compatible with Diafaan SMS Server for both sending and receiving.

Hello Khuram,

You can try to change the 'CompatibilityMode' setting in the advanced settings of the GSM Modem interface. This setting changes the way Diafaan SMS Server reads the messages from the phone.

However, it is very likely that the Symbian phone does not support reading SMS messages from the serial port interface. A lot of older smartphones only support sending messages over the serial port interface and most modern smartphones do not support even this.

Regards, Henk
