This error means that the message was being processed by the gateway when the gateway was stopped manually or because of a shutdown of Diafaan SMS Server. The gateway buffers a number of messages to increase the send speed, when the gateway is stopped all these messages are marked with one failed send attempt.

Normally Diafaan SMS Server will repeat the message using the same gateway (when it is available again) or with one of the other available gateways. But if this is the last send attempt or when no other gateways are available to send the message you will see the 'Gateway was paused' error.

The number of send attempts for each gateway can be set in the 'Gateways' settings of the connectors. The default number of send attempts is 3 per gateway.
