Just a quick update. I have been able to test the Huawei E153, Huawei E173 en the Huawei E1750 modems. All three turn out to work fine with Diafaan SMS Server (tested on Windows 7 64 bits).

I encountered some problems when the devices were connected to a specific external USB hub. The modems were detected and seemed to work but sometimes would get a timeout while sending or receiving a message. This could be a problem with insufficient power on the USB hub or with interference from the radio signal. On other USB ports all three modems worked without a hitch.

In my experience, wireless USB modems sometimes suffer from USB driver problems either hardware or software related. It's always recommended to test the configuration thoroughly before final deployment.

Henk, I have some good news and bad news? good news I took drastic measures, I bought a new PC the original was getting a little old, installed diafaan lite and all appears to be working for now.Bad news is I'm still curious to find out what went wrong with the other, I can completely wipe and load drivers from scratch.
Any chance of a discount? this fault finding has taken be ages? and I will definately reload operating system and report back. All I need for now is lie version? if there is a requirement to upgrade license can that be done?

Thanks for your patience, hopefully it remains working by the time you read this message.

I still would like to see the test log from the GSM Modem Setup Wizard, but apart from that I suggest to wait until I had a chance to test the Huawei E173. Maybe I run into the same problems.

Henk

No luck with system restore, just to be curious I installed on 2 machines one with xp and the other with win7 both work initially modem responds like normal, all 3 machines are Toshiba but like murphys law the one that needs to work doesn't. Your probably right about timeout errors because as soon as you initiate test it's over in about 3 seconds, it's annoying because I think I have the latest drivers and firmware bbut I cannot test, I know it's getting towards the end but is there anything else you suggest I do?
Thanks

The show log link in the GSM Modem Setup Wizard becomes visible as soon as the test sequence is finished (this can take 1 or 2 minutes). In your situation I would expect timeout errors or errors opening the serial port in the log file.

Henk

Henk show log is not there...I know what you mean show log is active only when modem intialises, I installed on another machine to confirm.I think the modem does not respond hence nothing to log.
Im going to try a system restore to see if it makes a diffrence, if it wasnt an important machine I would wipe data and start again.
Thanks for your help thus far.

Hi Rick,

If the trial version does not work, the licensed version will not work either. Please do not purchase the license until you are sure the software works as expected.

I am still curious what the test log says. You can get the test log with the following steps:
- Remove all gateways from Diafaan SMS Server
- Add a new GSM Modem Gateway
- Select the COM port you see in the Device Manager (see image below)
- Click on the Test button
- Click on show log and copy the log

Regards,
Henk

Thanks Henk, I upgraded my firmware tonight on the modem, how do you suggest I install the modem using Diafaan? the problem is It will not attempt to scan the ports for any modems.Did I mention the modem works perfectly using my other programme for bulk SMS, on the same machine, the other programme was only installed to confirm the modem works. If I can only completely remove the software and start again I got a feeling it will probably work.
Thanks for being patient...if its a license issue that it resets the trial period I'm happy to pay for it so I can sort this out.Hope this helps

Hi Rick,

It does not matter if you use the trial version or the licensed version, both should work equally well.
Problems with the connection to the modem usually have to do with the USB drivers of the the modem or with interference from the installed GSM modem software. Diafaan SMS Server just sends modem commands through the (virtual) serial port and waits for the answer. It is unlikely that Diafaan SMS Server causes the behavior you see in this case.

I'll try to get hold of a Huawei E173 modem to see if I can replicate your problems. When I receive the modem I will report back.

Henk

Henk-I have uninstalled the modem so what can I log? It doesn't search for the modem and if I manually select the port there is no response. I have found new drivers for the modem which has an uninstall driver tool, I am able to reinstall drivers, windows detects modem with no issues hower diafaan server will not allow to search for modem. When this occurred on my win 64 machine only way to fix was to reload operating system and start again, this is not an option for this machine. Is it because it's a trial version that it behaves like this?
Thank you

Hi Rick,

Removing all of the software and settings is not possible without invalidating the evaluation license. However, re-installing the software is unlikely to solve the problem. It looks like your modem stops responding to the modem commands after 15 minutes. This probably indicates a problem with the USB driver or the firmware of the modem.

In the advanced settings of the GSM Modem Properties you can find the LogCommunicationToFile property. If you set this to True all the communication between the modem and the software is logged. If you send this log to dmsATdiafaanDOTcom I might be able to see something that could cause the problem.

Henk

I would really like to completely remove programme, a normal delete still maintains user settings.I would like to start from scratch without reloading operating windows system…is this possible? I did a delete using ccleaner and deleted all temp and unused registry files but programme still maintains settings.

Thanks

I tried and installed on a 32 bit windows 7 machine, it behaved the same way it worked for about 15mins, then just stopped. What I noticed is initially when it installed it did a search for the modem which it found, but now when you select search modem it searches momenterily and then stops. Is there a way to completely remove software to install again. When it works it rocks.Below is event log.

I am curious what the test log says. Is it possible to post the log (click Show Log) that you get when you select the serial port in the GSM Modem Setup Wizard and click the Test button?

Hi Rick,

Diafaan SMS Server checks all serial ports to see if they are connected to a GSM modem. Most likely the drivers for your GSM modem did not properly install the (virtual) serial port.

In the Windows Device Manager you can check if the driver for the GSM modem installed the serial port (see image below). If no serial port is installed for the GSM modem you might have to (re)install the latest driver. Sometimes it is also a good idea to install the latest firmware on the device.

Regards,
Henk
