The character map handling of the SMPP protocol is open for interpretation and some configurations can cause problems with certain characters and sometimes complete garbage messages. The default settings of Diafaan SMS Server should work best for most configurations, it uses the 7-bit SMS character set for basic SMS messages and Unicode for messages with specific characters.
I might be able to see what goes wrong if you post the original message and the message as it appears on the phone. I also would like to see the configuration file of Diafaan SMS Server (menu options 'File-Export-Configuration'). You can send the file to email address email@example.com.
I have been trying to do some character mapping and it looks like they get distorted along the way. What I send is not what comes out on the recipients phone. Please assist on how best we can get that to work.
