Hi Henk,
We all good and thanks for explaining the issue.

I am not sure that I understand your question, but in general the 'SMSOverGPRS' to 'True' setting uses an AT command that leaves the modem in the default settings for (some) 4G LTE modems. For modems on older networks it is the other way around.

Hi Henk,
Thanks for the explanation. Still a bit confused. We upgraded the Modem recently as Telstra was shutting down the 3G network. On the gateway in Diafaan it says
GSM Operator
Operator Code: 50501
Operator Name: Telstra Telstra
Country: Australia
Network 4G LTE
GSM modem:
Manufacturer: Quectel
Model : EG25
Revision EG25GGBR07A08M2G
It should have not been working as it’s sending the sms over the Data channel ?
Regards,
Kwhy
The SMSOverGPRS function uses the command that causes the problem in the older versions of Diafaan SMS Server. If switching this option on works on your modem then it it the best option to use if you do not want to upgrade Diafaan SMS Server to the latest version.
A short explanation:
On older networks it was sometimes possible to send messages over the GPRS data channel instead of the GSM control channel, but this often did not work and to prevent issues with some modems the option was disabled with a command from Diafaan SMS Server. On modern LTE networks, SMS messages are always sent over the data channel and on some LTE modems the command from Diafaan SMS Server disconnects the modem from the network. Setting the 'SMSOverGPRS' to 'True' leaves these modems in the default state so that they keep working normally.

Hi Henk,
Thanks for the reply. Got over the error by setting SMSOverGPRS as true in settings. Don't understand the difference. Will test your suggestion next time.
Always very helpful

Hello Kwhy,
Older versions of Diafaan SMS Server use a modem command that is incompatible with some modern 4G LTE modems, this command was removed from Diafaan SMS Server in version 4.6.0.0.
You can test this by setting the 'CompatibilityMode' property in the advanced settings of the GSM Modem Gateway to 'BasicPDUMode', and after that rebooting the modem by removing the power supply connector for a few seconds. In BasicPDUMode, Diafaan SMS Server does not use this modem command and the modem should work again for sending and receiving SMS messages.
In BasicPDUMode, Diafaan SMS Server does not ask the modem for status information so you do not see the status of the modem and the network in the console program. But sending and receiving SMS messages is fully supported.
