You can use a mobile phone with Diafaan SMS Server but most modern phones do not support receiving text messages with external software. If you need to use a mobile phone then you could try a (very) old phone, like the Nokia 6110 or the Siemens S35. There may be modern GSM phones that support both send- and receive text messages with Diafaan SMS Server but I have not been able to test the software with one.

Diafaan SMS Server can use most GSM or 3G modems to send and receive messages, the software is tested with the Wavecom GSM modems, the HuaWei E220 and the Option ICON 505.

Must i use just GSM modem or i can use mobile phone? I'm using Nokia 5310 express music. Then i set gateway "only send" its work fine, then i set send and receive, the status is initialize... i cant receive message. Where i can find supported mobile phone list?

thank you for your reply. I've tried this configuration and works properly with a Wavecom Modem 900P.

Set the DeliveryConfirmation Advanced option to True.

Set the baudrate of the GSM modem to 19200 because don't support another baudrate.

With those settings the modem don't restart and I can send messages with characters like @#% or characters like á, é, ...

The log file shows that your GSM modem does not respond when the software sends the 118 character message. After 30 seconds Diafaan SMS Server generates a timeout and restarts the GSM modem. The most likely cause is a bug in the firmware of the GSM modem, maybe only in combination with certain GSM networks or base stations. I recommend a firmware update to the newest version of the GSM modem software, unfortunately it is not possible to flash the firmware of a Wavecom GSM modem yourself since you need a special cable that is only supplied to Wavecom distributors.

It is unlikely but there are a couple of things you could try that might just work:

Use a SIM card from another GSM network.
Set the DeliveryConfirmation Advanced option to False
Set the baudrate of the GSM modem to 115200 (see the manual of the GSM modem for instructions) and change the baudrate settings in the Advanced Properties.

The BasicTextMode is intended for incompatible GSM modems and (CDMA) networks that do not support full GSM compatible SMS messages. As you already have noticed it only allows sending messages with basic alphanumeric characters and digits.

I would like so have a look at the communication log file, please send the file to dms@diafaan.com. To enable logging, set LogCommunicationToFile in the Advanced gateway properties to True. Then send two messages, one with less than 118 characters and one with more characters.

Dear sir,

I am testing Diafaan Server SMS Light Edition with a Wavecom Modem 900P. I am using a e-mail conector to send the sms message. If the message text has more of 118 characters the modem restarts and the message isn't sended. The compatibilitymode is set as Normal. The modem works fine if the compatibility mode is set to BasicTextMode but in this mode the @ character is not well represented in the cellular. I have configured a message template as [from-address], [message-text]. So the receptor of the sms can identify the sender with the [from-address]. So is very important the correct visualization of the @ character. Why is the reason of the modem reset when the message is medium/large? Do you need the communication log?

Version 1.5.2 of Diafaan SMS Server has a couple of bugs fixed and minor user interface improvements. The basic edition now has support for up to four Gateways and four Connectors.

New features:

Basic edition supports four Gateways and four Connectors.
Support added for national number plans for GSM modems.

User Interface improvements:

Minor improvements made in the Gateway and Connector setup wizards.

Bug fixes:

Bug fixed in automatic removal of log items, automatic removal after 6 months caused log records to be removed after one week.

For the moment, based on the tests, the situation has been corrected with the implementation of this plugging. I am sending and receiving SMS with the normal cost.
Fixed the issue of cost, we can submit the proposal to the final customer. If it decides the software implementation, we will communicate with you for the final acquisition of SMS gateway software.

Yes, I received the files and just sent you a replacement for the GSM Modem Gateway that I would like you to try. If you did not receive the file please let me know (perhaps after you checked your spam filter).

My suspicion is that Movistar regards all GSM numbers that are flagged as being in international format as international numbers. Usually the format of the number does not matter for the pricing but this may be different in the SMS Central used by Movistar.

I sent you a version of the GSM modem gateway that flags all numbers with a leading "+" as written in international format and all numbers without a leading "+" as written in national format. The gateway can be installed in the Plugins folder in the folder where you installed Diafaan SMS Server. You need to restart the Service and Console of Diafaan SMS Server to replace the default GSM modem gateway.

As a first step I sent the SMS without the + and 0, but has not received the SMS on the target, now I do tests with +, for export and send it to you.
